Black Tax
Amidst the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, an initial sense of relief in black and brown communities was abruptly replaced by the harsh reality that we were disproportionately affected. Witnessing the toll on our loved ones, I grappled with the enduring "Tax" our communities bear—paid in blood, sweat, and soul. In quarantine, compelled by fear and anger, I turned to creativity. This metamorphosis birthed "Black Tax," an artistic endeavor navigating chaos, loss, and the significance of masks. As my pieces evolved, I questioned if they serve as a bridge to our ancestors, a currency of our labor, and a profound exploration of our journey through time.
